Description
I am currently listing a wide selection of Vintage Pocket Watches at great prices!!! Many of the pieces that I am offering are perfect for carrying and display and will make great gifts or simply treat yourself to a nice addition to your collection. Please view all my auctions for a super variety!Like a rarely marked coin, this 18 size Waltham hunter case watch features an 8K gold case that is clearly marked "Warranted 8K U.S. Assay". I have NEVER seen a low carat gold case marked with Assay markings. These markings were almost exclusivly reserved for 14K or higher gold cases. The front cover is deeply engraved with swirling patterns, a circle of stars and a fancy, uninitialed shield set at center. The center of the back cover is set with leaf and flower patterns. The same engravings flow nicely around the frame or center ring of the watch. The covers close nice and tight. The dust cover or cuvette is plain polished and scratch free.Have you ever seen a low carat case marked like this? This is the only case with a carat content below 14K with such clear assay markings. The case is signed 8K on all three covers. The outer covers are also marked "B.W.C.Co." with the serial number 501205. The Brooklyn Watch Case Company was well known for their high quality, heavy gold cases. This case is an exceptional example. The case is extremely crisp showing only very faint signs of having ever been carried or used. There are NO scratches or dents present anywhere on the case. The front cover opens sharply when released and stops short of 90 degrees as an unworn case should. The back and dust covers also open properly. The hinges are VERY firm and the covers snap shut tight. The bow still shows strong resistance and the crown is sharp. Overall, the watch measures 53mm (2 1/16") wide X 75mm (2 15/16") from the top of the bow to the base of the case X 18mm (11/16") thick. Total weight of the piece is a heavy 4.2 ounces (119 grams). The front cover opens sharply when released revealing a beautiful single sunk, white porcelain dial which is marked with black Roman hour chapters and red five minute numerals. Blue, tulip shaped pointers center the dial and are bright and clean. The dial is stark white and clean. I can find NO hairlines, edge chips, scratches or flaws at all. A glass crystal protects the dial and is scratch free. The 18 size, 17 Jewel, model 1883, nickel, full plate, Appleton, Tracy & Co. grade, stem wind and lever set movement is clean and bright. The movement is signed "Appleton, Tracy & Co. - Waltham, Mass. - Adjusted - 17 Jewels - Safety Pinion". The serial number 4259299 dates this piece back to about 1890.The movement is very clean and bright, showing only minor service marks and just a couple of very small spots on the winding gold regulator star. The movement features super fancy damaskeening. It exhibits a wonderful brilliant lustre and comes with gold screw down jewel settings and a gold micro-metric regulator. I have just had this watch completely and professionally disassembled, cleaned, oiled, polished, timed and regulated. It winds and sets smooth and is running strong while keeping excellent time. Super Condition Inside & Out!!!!!This is a very nice, strong running watch that is ready to put to use or add to your collection. I am offering this item with a "Buy It Now" should you choose to end the auction early and eliminate last minute bids. I will also gladly consider any reasonable offer you may wish to make on this item. If I failed to mention something in my description of the watch OR there is erroneous information present, it is purely unintentional. In spite of as much care, detail and research as I try to put into the description of each and every timepiece I sell, it is inevitable that I will miss something on occasion. Please keep this in mind when viewing the pictures. Consider them carefully, in lieu of my description and make sure to e-mail me with any questions or concerns you may have PRIOR to bidding. I usually respond within 24 hours. Regardless of my description and photos here is the bottom line, I want you to be happy with your purchase. If you are not completely satisfied, please contact me within 3 days of receiving the item with your concerns. If we can't find a mutually agreeable solution, I will gladly give you a full refund of your high bid amount. Check out all my other items for a great selection to choose from and be sure to add me to your favorites list as I am constantly adding new listings.
