Description
dandj2420 Store   Dudley Model 3 Masonic Pocket Watch Minty!!!       Description: Normal 0 THIS AUCTION IS BEING RE-LISTED DUE TO A NON PAYING BIDDER.Offered for bidding consideration is this near mint Model #3 Dudley Masonic pocket watch. What sets this particular watch apart from it's peers is the fact that this watch is a ' transitional ' specimen of the Model #3. After the purchase of the Dudley assets from the P.W. Baker Co., the XL Watch Co. of New York began assembling what is now referred to as the Model #3. The watch reference books indicate that the Model #3 serial numbers start at 4801. The references also cite that the Model #3 has a 3-dimensional riveted Bible and a rounded 3d wheel bridge. On the vast majority of Model #3's this is true. However, This watch has the flat, silvered Model #2 Bible and a squared off 3d wheel bridge. However, the serial number is 5065. Perhaps you are wondering how this can be. The XL Watch Co. assembled the Model #3's from the remaining parts inventory acquired from the P.W. Baker Co. There were spare pieces left from the production of the Model #2 pocketwatches. Not wanting to discard these masonic symbol bridges, they were incorporated into the early Model #3 watches that were produced. This is a VERY scarce watch. The movement is cased in a display back gold-filled case. There are no dings, dents or scratches in the case. The is no trace of brassing. Both the front and back crystals are glass. The signed silver colored dial is virtually free of blemishes or watermark staining. There are no drag marks on the dial at the sweep second hand. The masonic bridges are clean as are the blued screws that hold the bridges to the base plate. The hands are the 'spade type' and show excellent bluing. Even the 'spade type' sweep second hand matches the primary hands. The watch winds and sets nicely. I don't know when the watch was last serviced and have not timed it for accuracy. It runs well with good movement of the balance. The only flaw I can point out is a jeweler's number that is lightly signed on the base plate above the serial number. It does not distract. If you are looking for rarity, condition and a very nice presentable Dudley Masonic watch, this could be the watch for you.As for the box it is displayed in, it is believed to be either the original box or a box that was purchased from the jeweler at the time of original purchase.  The box is unmarked.
