The most common is blue-violet glass. A synthetic fosterite has also been used as an imitation and is known as Tanzanique in the trade. It has a lower RI than Tanzanite and does not have the same pleochroism so is easily distinguished from the real thing. However, laymen can easily be fooled so always buy from a reputable dealer, preferably a member of the ICA (International Colored Gemstone Association) which has a strict code of ethics. Clean tanzanite in warm, soapy water. Avoid ultrasonics and steamers. Tanzanite is stable to light but reacts to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid. The Biggest problem with tanzanite is that it’s very susceptible to cracking when bumped or knocked. That combined with its tendency to abrade makes it inappropriate for wear in everyday rings. It’s an impressive stone, however, for necklaces, earring and brooches More information about Gemstone Please Click Here Feedback Award   Color grading for web | Clarity Scale | Shape | Treatment and Enchantment | Hardness | Refractive index | Birthstone Copyright © 2007 Thaigemstore Created by eBay Blackthorne ver. 3.2.31.0
