Its platinum mounting holds an even more spectacular gem. The diamond in this ring is 1.28 carats and is VVS1 E color. It is a mine cut and has the culet nick that typifies the mine cut. These old cuts used to be devalued and were often re-cut into modern brilliants, however, now we have come to appreciate the character of these older cuts for their individuality and their charm. They are indeed more unique and dare I say, more valuable for their antique history because they are old fashioned cuts. It was once believed that the flat bit on the bottom of the diamond would let in more light, modern stonecutters learned differently but for people who love old cuts of stones, mine cuts are very desirable. It’s not a stone that gets lost in a sea of brilliants. This is a big one and one of truly rare and uncommon value. Simply at the top of the grading charts, this stone is CLEAN and near colorless.  Now, take a stone like that and consider that it is set in its original old platinum (marked 900) with 4 smaller mine cut rounds set in the corners of the mounting. There is typical fine hand engraving on the ring and the ring itself shows some wear, but it is indeed evidently not a repro dime-a-dozen knock off style of this kind of ring, but a true Deco platinum beauty with terrific old cut stones.   There is a slight curvature to the ring which takes natural form when a ring of this magnitude is worn for a long period of time.    The top of the ring measures 6.18mm in diameter.
