Description
An African Maasai Traditional Tribal Art Necklace Vintage Estate Wedding Necklace FREE Shipping, including Insurance, for a Limited Time to Continental U.S. Only! This authentic high quality Maasai or Masai Tribe Beaded Wedding necklace was beaded in the traditional Maasai fashion by women in Kenya, Africa. This particular item is called an Enkarewa Bridal Necklace as this type bears a triangular fringe with suspended metal discs around the main ring. Colorful Diamond Neckband Pattern! Traditionally, the necklace is beaded by the mother and presented by the father to the daughter to be worn on her wedding day. This necklace is beaded & has a leather backing with beaded pendants adorning it, capped by cowry shells. It measures 8.5" in diameter with 3, 17.5" pendants or strands, capped by Cowry Shells (worn for good luck & abundance). Ideas: Wear it or Display it as part of your Authentic Costume, or adapt it to suit your decor! Use as a Frame for a circular mirror! More History: http://www.maasaieducation.org/maasai-culture/maasai-beadwork-jewelry.htm The Maasai tribespeople believe that colors are symbolic, the blue in this old piece represents the sky and the tribe's belief in God (Nkai). The bright green beads represents grass, sacred because it nourishes the cattle that play a central role in the cycle of traditional Maasai life. Red and white are thought to be their life-sustaining colors: red represents the blood of the cattle, and white stands for their milk (these colors are present in almost all antique Maasai jewelry).
